5. What are requirements for training at a customer's location?
At Mount Onsite Training we have adopted the MOST method of learning. We believe that in order to be successful in your career you need to understand the HOW and WHY of the garage door industry. We accomplish this best with our hands-on training sessions. A great deal of time and thought have gone into making our training facilities the best they can possibly be. However, we understand that for some companies, getting your tech to us can be a challenge. Therefore, we have made a list of requirements that we feel will give you and your tech as close to the experience we could provide at our facilities at yours. These require that each student is given ample opportunity to learn and put our practices into place. To be able to have an effective training at your site we will require the following things:
• Stations that are set up for the type of door/opener you would like training on
• Each station will need to accommodate at most 4 students
• Stations will need to have required tools, electric, ladders, proper framing, and ample work area
• Tool/additional product list can be provided once subject matter is chosen
• Doors and openers will also be required for each station. We will work with you to find the correct mix
• Additional supplies may be needed as well
Disclaimer: Please note that our facility is set up to handle multiple different scenarios and is designed to offer a complete training. We have numerous manufacturers, different track configurations, spring set ups and array of tools. While we understand that this may not be possible at your site, we ask that the expectations reflect this. Due to travel, we are limited as to what we can provide at your site, i.e tools, products etc.
6. Where can I learn more about your online classes?
Our online classes are designed to work in conjunction with our in-person, hands-on training. FAQ’S About IDEA Certification
Q: CAN I GET IDEA CERTIFIED FOR EACH TRAINING?
A: Yes! All of our trainings give you the opportunity to get IDEA Certified. However, please note that COMMERCIAL OPENERS are covered on the COMMERCIAL SECTIONAL test and there are specifications for each.
Q: DO I SIGN UP FOR MY TEST THROUGH MOUNT ONSITE TRAINING?
A: You will sign up for each certification on the IDEA website linked on our TESTING page. Mount Onsite Training does proxy some of the test or a representative from IDEA will administer the test. All testing is given at our facility.
Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T PASS MY TEST?
A: Sometimes it does happen where you may not pass and that is ok! IDEA will give you the chance to retest at no charge. However, you must make arrangements through IDEA to retest.
Q: HOW MUCH DOES THE TEST COST AND WHO DO I PAY?
A: All tests are purchased and registered with IDEA on their site. The tests can be purchased per class or they can be bundled. The Residential, Commercial Sectional and Rolling Steel tests are $250.00 each and the Rolling Fire Door is $300.00. IDEA does offer a Master Tech bundle which includes ALL 4 tests for $850.00 or The Residential/Commercial bundle for $400.00 and the Rolling Steel/Fire Door bundle for $450.00.
Q: HOW IS THE TEST GRADED AND WILL I KNOW THAT DAY IF I PASSED?
A: Good question! The test is a pass or fail grading system. You must have at least 70% for Residential, Commercial Sectional and the Rolling Steel to pass. You must however, have at least 80% to pass the Fire Door test. Please note, the RESIDENTIAL certification is the ONLY certification that you do not need at least 2 years of experience to receive your certification. What does that mean? That means that you are free to take any of the tests BUT you will not receive your certification from IDEA until you have 2 years of experience in the industry except for RESIDENTIAL. Typically, you will hear from IDEA in about 2 weeks if you have passed. This information does NOT come from Mount Onsite Training but IDEA.
Q: HOW SHOULD I STUDY FOR THIS TEST?
A: Like we have heard all of our lives from our teachers, you should study OFTEN! A PDF study guide will be sent to you from IDEA once you have registered and paid for your test(s). After that, it is up to you to put the time in. Our hands on training as well as the study guide and your experience to this point should set you up for great success BUT you must study.
Q:OK THAT IS A LOT! ANYTHING ELSE?
A: Just a few more points. When filling out your form on the IDEA website, they will ask you a few questions that may not seem obvious. When asked date and location of exam, please enter our address and the date you are signed up to take the exam at our facility. They will also ask you “Sanctioned Trainer”. Please enter Dave Mount.
