“We don’t just teach the How, we teach the Why

Welcome to Mount Onsite Training!

We believe the best garage door technicians don’t just know how to do the job, they understand why every installation, adjustment, and repair matters.

After more than 35 years in the garage door industry and becoming one of the first IDEA Master Technicians, I saw a gap in traditional garage door training. Too often, technicians were taught the steps to complete a task but not the principles behind them. Without understanding the “why,” costly mistakes, safety risks, and unnecessary callbacks become far more common.

That’s why I created Mount Onsite Training and developed the Mount Onsite Method, a proven, step-by-step approach to hands-on garage door training that builds confidence, technical expertise, and real-world problem-solving skills. Our mission is to help every student master both the how and the why so they can become safer technicians, stronger leaders, and valuable assets to their companies.

Whether you’re looking for garage door technician training, garage door installer training, commercial garage door training, residential garage door training, fire door training, rolling steel door training, or garage door business training, our programs are designed to prepare you for long-term success in the field. Through 90% hands-on instruction, online garage door courses, and immersive in-person training led by experienced industry professionals, you’ll gain practical skills you can apply immediately on the job.

At Mount Onsite Training, we don’t just teach people how to install and service garage doors—we develop professionals who understand the engineering, safety standards, and best practices behind every system they work on. When you understand both the how and the why, you build a career, earn the trust of your customers, and become the technician others rely on.

Dave and Nick were great. They did an excellent job especially with the 1 on 1 teaching they do. I definitely recommend coming if you have any doubt in garage doors or simply want a refresher on what to do!

Did the 3 day residential class with Dave. He push us to grow and challenge my team to think outside of just the basics. We did a side mount spring. This was awesome making our own cables and really make us understand spring cables and drums. Dave showed us how to find springs specs and use the Service Spring app to find out what spring we need for the door. This is very informative and I’d suggest for anyone in the door industry to take a class and be open minded to learn something new.

Been to 2 different trainings left both learning and feeling more comfortable. David does a good job explaining and showing what he teaches.

Our Mission Statement

“At Mount Onsite Training, our mission is to develop the next generation of skilled garage door professionals through industry-leading, hands-on garage door training. We provide comprehensive residential garage door training, commercial garage door training, fire door training, rolling steel door training, and garage door business training. Our programs combine practical instruction, safety, and proven techniques to prepare students for today’s garage door industry.”

Should I have prior experience before taking these trainings?

Yes and No.

Our 2-Day Residential Installation training is designed to cater to those looking to get started in the garage door industry, with little to no experience.

The remainder of our trainings operate on the assumption that you have at least a few months of experience prior to attending our class. With some of our advanced classes such as our Commercial Fire Door course, you must have at least a two years of experience prior to attending.

Will I be able to immediately work in the industry after taking your trainings?

Yes, but….

If you have completed our trainings and paid attention, you will have the basics skills needed to get started in the industry.

However, the garage door industry requires lifelong learning, as new products and innovations are constantly being introduced.

The more experience you gain, the more confident you will become in handling field challenges.

Our trainings are designed as a starting point, and we expect that you fully participate in the “hands-on” practices provided in any and all online trainings. It is also expected that you will be fully engaged and participate in our hands on components of in-person trainings. It is essential to apply what you’ve learned in real-world scenarios to truly develop your skills.
